Tranberg ThermoConnect (TTC) is our 20 A family of electronic heat-tracing controllers for hazardous areas: a Raychem control unit built into a STAHL 8150 enclosure in acid-resistant stainless steel AISI 316L, IP66, wired and tested at our own factory. Each unit controls one single-phase heating circuit locally and reports to the control room over Modbus RTU, or wirelessly with the Trusted Wireless and Wireless HART versions. Choose a plain controller for frost protection and temperature maintenance, or a controller/limiter with an IEC 61508 SIL 2 safety temperature limiter where the process must never exceed a maximum surface temperature (EN 60079-30-1).
Three groups
TTC (20 A, NGC-20) covers single-phase circuits up to 20 A, also as a double unit and with a 16 A safety switch. Wireless controllers have the repeater built in, and wireless repeaters add Trusted Wireless or Wireless HART to standard wired units. All versions take two PT100 sensors (three-wire), the limiter versions a third for the safety channel. For the current 16 A generation with the Elexant 5010i, see the ThermoConnect TTC2.
Application
- Hazardous areas, Zone 1 and Zone 2, and safe area
- Chemical and petrochemical plants, offshore installations, industrial plants: frost protection and temperature maintenance of pipes, tanks and instruments
- According to NORSOK requirements
- Processes that must be protected from overheating (controller/limiter only)
Features and benefits
- Local control with central monitoring: alarms for high temperature, high and low current, ground fault and voltage, with user-configurable ground-fault trip and warning levels
- Automated heat-tracing system check: dormant heating cables are tested periodically so faults are found before the cold season
- Modbus RTU over RS-485, up to 247 units on one serial port, ready for Tranberg PlantConnect and nVent RAYCHEM Supervisor
- Safety switch versions isolate the heating cable for maintenance without opening the enclosure
- Stainless steel AISI 316L / EN 1.4404 enclosure, IP66, −40 °C to +40 °C
- Configuration locally with the Ex programming tablet or centrally over the bus; settings are kept in non-volatile memory

Approvals and certificates
- ATEX: PTB 09 ATEX 1109 (STAHL 8150/5)
- The controller/limiter meets EN 60079-30-1: the protective device de-energises the system independently of the controller if the maximum permissible surface temperature would be exceeded, and on sensor failure
- Datasheets, dimension drawings, certificates and user manuals are listed above the table
Sensors and accessories
Order the PT100 sensors with the controller: Tranberg PT100 three-wire sensors with 3, 5, 10 or 15 m silicone cable (−35 to +500 °C), Raychem MONI-PT100-260 with 2–25 m PTFE cable and M16 gland (−50 to +260 °C), or MONI-PT100-Exe with mineral-insulated cable for high temperatures. Mechanical protection kits and flexible hoses in AISI 316 protect the sensor cable, and the 100 Ω reference resistor (9179182) can disable the limiter channel where it is not used. Antennas and antenna cables for the wireless versions, and the Raychem Ex programming tablet NGC-CMA2 (50291255), are available on request.
